okay here's the low down on vector, vector is actually in technical terms a form of rendering a computer does, there are two types of rendering done in the realm of 2d digital art...raster and vector, illustrator and freehand and xara use vector which means that the line you make is representative of a stroke, and the computer will smoothe it out and remember it as sort of a loose form...raster on the other hand is very exact, each pixel is that pixel and nothing else, that is the setting of photoshop, where pixels are very important, due to the fact that your working with a photo...if you stretch a vector the computer compensates, if you stretch a raster you blur the image...thats being said, vector as an art form is a recent upheaval due to a large amount of proffessional gfx designers moving over to vector based image processing, see its easier to change sizes and DPI for printing in vector settings...so lots of good artists have taken it up...and are creating a very recognizable style using vector, very smooth lines, and liquidy feeling colors is the hallmark of the style...
i don't use vector, but i learned some techniques from vector painters, mainly blocking and highlighting, i tend to create like a vector painter would, so people tell me it looks vector....but in reality all of my pieces are raster, because there made in photoshop...another tendency of vector artists is to use colors like i do, solid bold colors and shapes...instead of brush strokes...this being said a lot of vector artists use a subtle color range for skin tones or even white, this is mainly a direct inspiration from patrick nagel an artist who was very popular in the 80s
there you go everything you need to know about vector...
